This web site is all about Australian Children

In Australia many of our children have a uniquely Australian Life style and we aim here to bring you an insight into what being a child in Australia and growing up “down under” is all about

In Australia we live in many different styles of dwellings. In the citys the houses are often similar to many other cities in the world with a brick veneer over timber frame being the most common type of construction. Similarly there is a smaller percentage of double brick dwellings and homes made from concrete blocks.

Once you get out of the city there is often a much more diverse range of buildings with many homes on the coast starting their life as a weekender or holiday home.

The styles of houses and how that impacts our children is the feature of this page and soon we will be updating with more Information and photos

Designing a Children's Bedroom for you Daughter in Australia

Girls bedrooms are easy to decorate if you are happy with the off the shelf very pink products for sale. If you want something a little different here are a few ideas.

A Forest theme

Take a good size cutting from a tree. Make sure it has about 3 main branches. Make some birds nests. (I used the sleeves from an old jumper rolled up). Put ‘eggs’ made from cotton wool buds in the nests. You can make little birds from pieces of felt sewn together. Hang items from the branches. Shiny things are nice because they catch the light. Go looking for treasures to add to your forest. Maybe some pretty rocks or attractive feathers. Some interesting leaves hanging from the ceiling make a natural mobile. A few big rocks tumbled together can make a good platform for your little gnomes, fairies, rabbits or any other little things hiding in your forest. You can get some really interesting fuzzy wool that looks like moss for your rocks. If you have the space you can use the rock to make a little creek bed. Used blue fuzzy wool for the water and collect all different size rocks to make the creek bed. Butterflies would like to live in your forest. And bats - make them out of black cardboard.

A Beach theme

An old fish tank makes a good feature for a beach theme. Put some sand and shells inside. Find a good picture on the internet to paste on the back of the tank. Get some colourful sarongs and drape them around your room. Hang a Straw hat decorated with a wreath of summer flowers on the wall. Op Shops are great places to collect all of these things! Go looking for some drift wood and shells at a beach to add to your collection. Make a collage of pictures of you and your family having fun at the beach. Put it in an old frame with shells glued all around the edges. Coconut shells filled with sand and a tea-light make good mood lighting. Have some coconut oil ready to rub on your skin and you’ll be whisked away to your own beach way down in Kokomo.
